If I tag someone in a DM (Direct Messages) on twitter, will they be able to see the messages?

An example: I'm gossiping with a friend about someone so here's the DM: "you saw what did @whatever do? I don't really like him!" can @whatever see that message?

I don't think so. But why would you do that anyway.

theres a difference between replies/mentions and direct messages, the latter wont be seen unless they follow you, the first two yes, if they hit the connect button.

And to be safe, just put a space between @ and the person's name.
