well it depends on what your twittering about.

Open a more interesting topics and stuff and you will get more followers.

Post your twitter around on forums and also tell friends to follow your twitter also. While doing so, add what you most tweet about and what you do, who you are...Essentially a brief about you for the person to grab your attention and follow you.
