Facebook privacy settings?

I am very confused about the Facebook privacy settings. Basically I want to be very private on there. I don't mind if friends come and look at things that I have on my profile, but I don't want any of those changes I make to show up on the main page my friends all see.

For instance, I don't want people to know when I joined a group, when I wrote on someone's profile, when I am tagged, when I comment on photos, etc.

How do I ensure that none of my friends are "notified" about all these little things?
