How do I stop syncing ALL facebook friends on HTC Incredible S but keep syncing phonebook contacts?

On my HTC Incredible S, all my facebook friends are there when I press 'Phone', but I don't want them all there. I just want to have people I usually have on my phone. However, I would like these people to be synced with facebook, i.e. I can see their status. Is this possible?

my solution, in case you have a backup of your phone contact to your PC, is to:

1) Accounts & Sync > Facebook for HTC Sense (and Facebook) > Remove account
2) Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Facebook app > Clear Cache/Data. Do the same for Facebook for HTC Sense.
3) Contacts Storage > Clear data.

After this, you'll have to sync your phone contact from PC to phone. Then inside Facebook app, make sure you don't sync contact data.

All this take me half day to figure out, but about 15 minutes to clean & restore them all.

*edit:* I tried disable contact sync in FB app before but that doesn't work as that app blew my contact storage to like 9500 people (from 300 FB friends!)
