Can I press charges on someone who lives in another country?

I have an ex boyfriend who lives in Sweden, he has been harassing me, my friends, and family for months. I've changed my number, facebook, skype, email, to all the strict settings. But he keeps finding ways to try and get into contact with me. Is is possible to charge him?

No, for two reasons. One, he's there and you are not. Two, no crime has been committed.

I very much doubt it unless he commits a pretty serious criminal offence. From what you've said above his behaviour is inappropriate and creepy but it's more harrassment than stalking.

The best case scenario is that his local police would have a word with him and that might be enough to scare him into changing his behaviour.

One alternative option (would be very expensive though) would be to hire a lawyer in Sweden to file civil charges against him for harrassment. The options here would be limited but if he is sending you unwanted messages, e-mail, phone calls etc. then your lawyer could make a formal complaint to his Internet Service Provider and telephone company and have him cut off. But as I said it would be expensive as lawyers are expensive.

I think you should:

(a) Contact your phone company and ask for them to block the numbers he uses to call you. Might not make much difference.

(b) Block him from contacting you on Facebook and if he creates a dummy account then report him to FB for harrassment. Multiple accounts are a violation of their terms and conditions so he could end up getting banned permanently.

(d) Dunno about Skype. Perhaps someone else could help there with some advice?

Anyway good luck and I hope this creep gets the message and leaves you alone. Thank god he is in a foreign country though and you don't need to worry about him turning up at your front door or harrassing you face to face.

Yes, you can file a complaint. Yes, you can have him charged.

However, he would have to return to Canada before he would be arrested. They can not force him to come back.

If you live in another EU member state, I would say yes. If you are a resident in North America, I'd say Good Luck. Hope you will find a solution! If nothing can be done, maybe you should respond in kind ;/
