Do people do that? How would it help? I guess it can't hurt.

By the way, I run a scrap metal recycling yard. We take in old appliances and TV's computers, etc. and we recycle the usable metal. Can Twitter help us?

hmmmm no.... not really

twitter would be great to for sending out updates to your current customers, but with twitter the people need to be looking for you to see what you have wrote

it wouldn't really attract new business, because the people would have to already know who you are and be your twitter "friend"

a website would be better

Yes Twitter is a great medium for promoting your business online.

You'll need followers to make it effective, but if your Tweets are interesting and not obviously just self promotional the followers will come.

Hi,
Today every one wants to be on twitter but really few people understand the functionality and are able to reap the benefits of being on twitter. You have to understand the all these social media platform are only there to add value to your business in one way or other...you can't really get tons of growth by joining twitter.
Let me show you an example where , how cleverly one restaurant uses twitter to serve its customer and help them in every possible way.

Just check this...you can see how effectively these guys are using twitter to interact with their customers.

Use all channels that are free. Tell them what you do.
