how to make separate groups in facebook chat?

Ok so in the old facebook chat there was this thing where you could make different groups in your chat and go offline for like some of your friends but stay online for your other friends... but now in the new chat i dont know how to do it since everything changed! Does anyone know how to? i remember once i did it but i dont remember how i did it..help!

You have to go through your friends list and make people either "acquaintances" "close friends" or "restricted."
Once you've picked out maybe just your close friends, you go on chat and click the "limit availability." You can make is so you're only available to close friends and acquaintances if you want. Or just close friends, or just acquaintances.

The people you are putting in these groups do NOT get a notification for what group you put them in. (Put my crush in "close friends." LOL)
