Can strangers send you messages on facebook?

If I put "Friends of Friends" in the privacy settings. Does it mean people that I don't know can send me messages? Or if I put Friends option does it mean only friends can message me?

I'm not sure but I think that's just for viewing your profile. I'm pretty sure you can change the setting

People can still message you even if they aren't your friend on Facebook.

If you put 'friends of friends' on your privacy, then strangers who are friends with your friends will be able to see you, and everything you post. If you set it to just friends, then only your friends will see.

However, if you comment on a friend's post, then their friends will be able to see your comment and the link to your profile. They won't be able to read any of your updates, but they would be able to send you private messages.

You can set your FB settings like:

Account ---> Privacy settings ---> Basic Directory Information ---> View settings --->Send me messages
Friends only

Search for me on Facebook ---> Friends only
Send me friend requests ---> Friends of friends..---> Preview my profile.

Yes. but you can change it to 'Friends' only.
