Why does everyone want people to 'follow back' on Twitter?
I don't see the point of people asking other people to follow back after following them. Is it some sort of Twitter etiquette to follow back when someone follows you? Personally, when I see I have new followers I think "Oh, that's cool that people want to see my tweets." Not "Oh more followers, I should follow them back." Also, why do people go to these websites to get more followers that don't even care about your tweets? Can someone please clarify this for me?

I don't know, but I know from experience people get pretty offended and hurl insults at you if you don't follow back.

Well, if I find their tweets boring, I'm not going to follow them and 'pretend' to like their tweets, just because they followed me.

Maybe it's an unwritten rule?

It's a fad on twitter. You don't necessarily have to follow everyone back. From my understanding twitter allows others to keep track and updated on what you are doing and thinking. And usually people follow you because they are interested. I guess it is good etiquette to follow people back but only follow those that you see are interesting.. otherwise don't bother because the majority are spammers.

People use the websites because it is "social networking" and it gives people a wide stream of updated events from around the world. People use twitter for many things such as following their favorite celebrities, news, business company etc.. some use it for exposure.

To me it is just another social networking site which is easy to access anywhere mobile and it is free. It has it's ups and downs.. and you don't have to follow others unless they are interesting or you feel social.
