How are the 6 friends displayed in the profile page in Facebook selected?

Every time you open facebook 6 friends are displayed on the left, and every day those change. At first I thought they were picked at random, but if so why every time you refresh the page the same 6 friends are displayed (or 5 the same 1 changes) but arranged differently?

Could it be the last people that viewed your profile?

According to Facebook, they're randomly selected. However, I think it must be the last people who viewed your profile or something, because who shows up is way too coincidental at times. For example, I'll see one of my facebook friends on the street / in the elevator or something, and later that night, the exact person repeatedly shows up in my 6 friends...For the past day or two now, it's been the same people showing up. And If I can recall correctly, a year or two ago, they actually were randomly selected every time you refreshed.

So my "answer" to the question is this: I think Facebook has created a way of letting you know who is looking at your profile and are subtly implementing it in the 6 friends area.

there will be a pen( blue) in the side of the friends tab... click on it and click on always show these friends.. there select the friends you want to see and click on it again..

No they are not your profile visitor. What i noticed that they are those people who are being recently online or get online recently and go offline.
