Do you think the use of facebook has damaged your real life or common interest friendships?
I have some friends who I know in real life, or know through similar interests on-line, and we used to contact each other with major updates via email. Since many of them started using facebook, I've noticed a rather unpleasant side to them..they post photos, updates and so on...often to the hundreds of fake friends but leave out the real ones...i.e. myself..or at least, I thought I was important to them.

They no longer contact me via text, email, phone, or meet to go out...it's the case of many of them that use facebook.

It's like facebook is a popularity contest. "Look how many friends I have," or "look where I've been today."

There's no personaliation anymore....and I was coerced to go on facebook, and I did, only to find out how hollow it is...at least for me.

Does anyone else feel their good friends are now just any and everyone's friends on facebook, but you have 'lost something' as a result?

I'm seriously re-evaluating the people in my life. I won't be there for them once the popularity of teh site goes and they need some real support.

Yes, it is unpleasing and strange to watch your friends write "statuses" that are rather vulgar.
The funny part is, there's actually no point, and no one really cares.

Yes i do belive it can damage a friendship because you can see how they act online and then people will know you as their friend and they will think you are just like them

I really don't understand how this facebook critique has come about. For me it's been really useful, makes keeping in touch really easy. long distance relatives often comment on statuses and photos, people with which i'd otherwise have next to no contact. i meet friends of friends through facebook, and some of them become my friends. I see a lot of funny statuses and posts that lift my mood a little sometimes, some from old school friends, and sometimes i comment on one and they say something back. It's all gravy. I like it.

There actually was a time about two years ago where I lost SO much important real life aspects of my life until I decreased my usage of facebook.
