is it possible to hide your facebook profile from certain people?

Is it possible to make your facebook profile non-public to some people you aren't friends with? and when you have done this, will these people be informed I don't want to show myself to them?
I mean. Not like only my information. But my name! If they search my name they won't find me. They won't find me even if we have mutual friends. If you know what I mean?

If you go into your privacy settings, you can make it so that only people you're already friends with can see your profile, and they won't be able to see anything on your page. I don't think its possible to take your name off the searches though, but if they can't access anything on your page it should be ok. Just be sure to set your photos to private as well, otherwise people will be able to see them even if the rest of your profile is private.
The same with mutual friends, they'll be able to see your name and profile picture, but nothing else.
