How come I got already a bunch of followers in Twitter in less than 1 hour?
I just created my completely fresh and new Twitter account around an hour ago and I do have already a bunch of followers who -by the way- I don't know. Who are these people? why they want to follow me if they don't even know who I am? What's the gain for them?

I would guess there are bots that latch on to new accounts to then scan & track for specific words or phrases that flag you in their database. To track trends, for news stories (to monitor the "buzz" on the internet), for target marketing, etc. I can think of more sinister motives, but I think that is the most likely.
