Why aren't public events visible on my facebook timeline?

If I say I'm attending an event it doesn't show up on my timeline. On other people's timeline this is visible, how can I change this?

If you create an event and select the Public option, it will appear in your friends' news feeds and anyone using Facebook can view the event info. If you select the Friends option, the event will appear in your friends' news feeds but only your friends, and the friends of anyone who has joined the event, can view the event info. If you select the Invite-Only option, only invited guests will be able to view the event. If you create an event within a group, the visibility of the event in news feed depends on the privacy setting of the group.
