Should I send him a Facebook request?

Sorry if this is long. So there is this guy at my school that I have the biggest crush on, but I don't know if he likes me back or not. He seems really reserved, but we have so much in common and I really want to get to know him better. I never send ANYBODY Facebook requests. I let all of my friends request me. He just got a Facebook a couple of days ago, so he only has 28 friends at the moment, and they are all people from his social group. I want to send him a request, but I am really nervous. I think he likes me, but I'm not sure. I just can never tell with boys. I have never had a boyfriend or anything. Today at school, he looked right at me and we made eye contact. I got really nervous and I started laughing really hard. I think he thought that I was laughing at him. I think that I might have hurt his feelings, but I'm not sure. I kind of want to send him a request as like an apology. Plus, he is really cute. Should I send him a request? What if he doesn't accept and tells all of his friends? I go to a really small school, so news travels fast. What if everybody starts saying that I like him? I am really shy and nervous...HELP!
