Why would a guy completly ignore your facebook messege?

I met this guy through friends and he told them that he liked me, and was looking for me when we went out. After that we had a really good time and we walked home together. I don't know if he decided he didn't like me that much following our walk home conversation - i had been drinking a bit so i might have said something stupid... i dont know. He didnt make any other indication that he liked me as more than a friend. The the next morning i had a friend request on facebook. Because our friends dont get together much i thought i would just send a messege saying that the other night was fun and stuff and thanks for walking me back. There didnt have to be any intentions behind that and even if a guy messeged me and i didnt like him like that i would still reply in a friendly manner! but that was yesterday and i have not had a response? I am just irritated because i feel embarresed now and i might see him again! why wouldnt he just reply so its not awkward? i know he got the messege because he has mobile alerts. I dont really understand why guys would ignore your messege when it will just make things more awkward? why not just say 'thats ok see you round' or something!?

Guys find it difficult to put a text message high on the list of their priorities never mind a Facebook message. He probably read it and has forgotten all about it, if it was only yesterday he may not have been on there to reply yet, just give it time, sounds like he's either forgot, been too busy or he just did not feel the message required a reply and not be that interested.
