How do people usually talk to their Facebook friends?

I've just looked at Facebook a few times & you don't see many conversations between people on their walls. Do people usually talk through some kind of email? some kind of messenger? Does Facebook have chat?

Facebook has chat. The application is on lower right corner of the page.

I usually avoid being on chat because it's annoying lol . I talk to my friends through private messages & statuses all the time though (:

Facebook has chat, at the lower right hand side of facebook, there is a chat button. You can choose to appear offline or online. You can only chat to people who are online when you are online. When you are offline you can't chat to your Facebook friends...
