I want to put an ad on Facebook, can anyone explain how that works?

I have been to the create an ad site and I don't understand some of how that works. Would I pay for each time someone click's "Like" or is it a daily fee thing? I also understood that I can pay per so many likes. For example if I get ten clicks I pay a fee for those ten and I don't pay again till I get another 10 clicks. I am so confused. A little help, Please?
