How do I change my facebook timeline setting?

I wanted to know how to change the setting so people can send a message before they become friends with me? I must have disabled it because the "send her a message" option doesn't appear ??

In the upper right hand corner next to "home" click on the downward arrow. Go to privacy settings, then by "how you connect" click edit. Select "everyone" under "who can send you Facebook messages." Have a blessed day!
