Is it okay to add your teachers as Facebook friends?
I just made myself a Facebook, and wanted to add everybody at my school. I am in middle school, and one of my friends told me that I could not add my teachers as my friends. Please tell me- why or why not?

Depends on what kind of crowd you hang out with.

Most kids your age will get all huffy and start calling you 'teachers pet' and other stupid things. They are just insecure about their own douchebaggery though.

While there is nothing (aside from social mores) preventing you from adding an instructor as a friend, certain laws/codes of conduct (that vary from state to state) may prevent the instructor from accepting your friend request.

From personal experience, the rules governing this in North Carolina dictate an instructor may not accept a friend request until a student's exit from the school system (be it graduation or dropping out).

Hope this helps!

I have some old teachers as friends on my page, I'm not in school anymore. There isn't a law against it but it's kinda weird. You don't want them knowing all your business, and let's face it, they are teachers, you don't really want to add them to your page. The choice is yours but if a teacher is on your page, watch everything you do or say, it could come back to you.

There's no law that says they can't. Some school districts have rules against it, and in others its just discouraged. They do this because some teachers don't want students seeing their personal information and they want to make sure nothing inappropriate is going on.

I think its pretty stupid personally. It should be fine as long as everything is appropriate. I'm friends with my bus driver and 2 of my current teachers on facebook and it works out pretty good. They haven't gotten in trouble for it. If i need help with assignments I can just go on facebook and ask at any time. It helps me connect to my teachers better so I realize they're real people with real lives and not just some robot standing in front of the room lecturing me. I plan on adding a few more that I liked when I graduate in a month.

I know some kids say they will never add teachers because they don't want them to see what they do outside of school, but others don't have a problem with it.

It depends,
You may ask a teacher and they may reply no or yes, or in some cases, schools are not allowed having teachers add the students for safety precautions.
