Was this disrespectful to point out...?
It was a few days before 9/11 last year when I posted many Facebook statuses saying things like, "Remembering those who died" or "God bless the families of 9/11 victims" and as I posted them, I noticed that other people were making JOKES/saying cruel things about "turban wearing", "suicide bombing" Muslims.
I don't tolerate that. I know I wouldn't appreciate it if I was Muslim. Islam is a beautiful religion. It's a huge shame that some are so screwed up that they murder people. But that's only the smallest of percentages of the religion. Anyway, I'm a loyal Christian. And if you look closely, Judaism, Islam, & Christianity are all developed from the same seed.
Anyway, I'm getting off track. After noticing that, I posted a status that said something like this, "Let's also take 9/11 as a time to reflect on history. I suppose most of us have failed to notice but 11 million people were killed in the Holocaust. The Holocaust was carried out by Christians, and their victims were not limited to Jews but also to gays and the disabled and anyone who stood in their way. And here we are discriminating against an innocent group of people (the Muslims) because a small number of them murdered roughly 3,000 people. Yet I don't see anyone saying a word against us Christians, so let's be a good sport in return and not tear down another religion."
I meant it with all-due respect to those who died in the 9/11 incident, and ALSO to memorialize the Holocaust victims AND to be justify innocent Muslims. But a man I know commented and said,
1. This is disrespectful to those who died in 9/11
2. Christians didn't commit the Holocaust, CATHOLICS did
3. It was more about war than religion
I thought it wasn't disrespectful but maybe so...? And by the way, I realize Catholics ARE Christians, he's just ignorant. And the last point he made is irrelevant.
I know this happened a long time ago but since it's that time of year again it's come back to my attention and I wanted to hear some GOOD NATURED opinions. Thank you.
Thank you, & I'm aware that it was more political than religious but nonetheless it wasn't Jews or Hindus or Muslims or any other group that was involved, usually Catholic Christians.
And as for Al Qaeda, it was also political as well as religious, so that train goes both ways, but thank you for your insight

People will perceive even the most educated viewpoints as disrespectful if it "bashes" their viewpoint or way of life.

Also, the holocaust was carried about by Hitler’s regime under the viewpoints of Nazism, not under the viewpoints of any Christian religion; to say that is was is to put blame where blame is not due. A better example is the Spanish Inquisition.

I think you made a very good point, but I still have little respect for the islamic religion.
And I don't think you were being disrespectful, you were simply stating a fact that I don't think many people think about.

You will not be able to have a resonable discussion with some people. Especially online, where people feel free to committ all forms of errors and mis-represent facts and post uninformed, bigioted things.
You made a good point, and hopefully some people will read it and start thinking..

I'd have replied that
"I made a comment of my opinion, you replied wiith your opinion represented as fact.
But you do have a right to post your opinion."

Honestly you can't reply to such foolishness, cos these people will stay up late to argue Smile
