I want to create a new facebook account but I don't want to use my real name for privacy reasons. Suggestions? I'd use my pets name but wouldn't that be too obvious?

or would it matter if I make my name unsearchable?

If you use a fake name it kind of defeats the whole purpose of Facebook. Facebook was built to make it easy for users to find and connect with each other, and if you use a fake name people won't know its you. Not only that, but it's against Facebook's terms and conditions to provide false information such as a fake name, so if you ever needed the help of Facebook support (such as if someone were to ever hack your account) and you did so, they might realize that your name is fake and you could be suspended from the website.
There are a ton of privacy settings you can place, so users who aren't your friend on Facebook will NOT be able to see your information. I recommend you place the settings so that only friends can see ALL of your information. You can also make a setting so that when people search you, you'll be invisible. That way, no one can find you on Facebook. This makes it your responsibility to search and friend request people you want as your friend, so you get to be a little more choosey about who you have as a friend on Facebook. Using a fake name, however, won't be very effective and I'd imagine you'll probably just end up changing it to your real name. When I first joined Facebook I used a fake name too, but as my friend list grew and half the people didn't know me, I ended up just changing it to my real name. So just use your real name and set up privacy settings, its easier anyways.
