How do certain friends get in your facebook profile friends list?

The left column of Facebook profiles have the subtitle, 'Friends' Why are THOSE friends on there? I have almost 700 friends, and the people in that little list of my profile are people I know the best, but I don't necessarily talk to them on facebook. Are those people the ones that visit my profile the most often? WHY ARE THEY ON THERE??

because they may have something related to you in their profile like
Same School name
Some mutual friends
Similar college
etc etc

it List all your Friends By Random So Each time you Refresh there will be Friends Listed There

I've been looking into this and despite what everyone else is saying

For sure / FACT:
It is NOT random. The order placed is, though. (Like if Emily was on the top of the list... you refreshed the page and now she's number 7]

After talking to people and studying the theories - it really does seem like the people who've most recently clicked onto your profile... show up on that list.
