Very weird thing with an old friend on facebook?
I checked facebook today. I do it once every 2-3 months, I literally have 19 friends. An old friend of mine sent me a message. His screen name was "Bob the builder", but he basically said "I'm sorry I haven't been a good friend and I was hoping you could get back to me"…

We were friends in elementary school. We had a little crush on each other when we were 10, went to separate high schools, but talked online. In a few short years he became an incredibly smart, lazy person. He didn't care about school, loved gaming, had a messed up family life. But he was smart. Some of the philosophical debates we had in the 10th grade are more advanced than the few philosophy courses I've taken at the university level.

I don't know, this is weird. Should I answer him? Two years ago he stopped coming online and we had no contact. I don't know where the bad friend part is coming from. In high school, I was glad we weren't seeing each other in person. He skipped school and was generally going no where in life. He failed a lot of courses too. As far as he told me, he never smoked, but said he would try. I literally would not be surprised if he's a recovering crack addict at this point, but I hope not.

I'm reluctant to talk to him. Why all of a sudden contact me? What do you think it could be?

Yes,answer him. Sounds like he needs to connect with a functional part of his past and I bet he needs a friend. It's not as weird as you think. This happened to me and a few of my friends. Everyone needs someone who will not judge him for his past or present situation. However if you feel it's imposing, don't connect. If you do,you'll learn things about yourself while helping someone else. Remember not to treat him as someone you use to know, rather, one of your pals you were missing Peg
