Accidentally downloaded something that is giving me online ads. How do I get rid of it?

The ads appear on websites everywhere. They say below them, ads not by (the website). Like for facebook below the ads it says "ads not by facebook". I don't know what the program name that is responsible for this is. How can I find and get rid of it?

Run you antivirus and antimalware programs.

If you don't have an antivirus then I suggest Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. They're both free or have free versions.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Run quick scans with both your antivirus and Malwarebytes' and delete everything they find.

Lets go a little try turning of the addon. I assume your using explorer.

Thats what happened to me once. Whatever I searched on the web an add about it would appear.For example if I searched tshirts an add about tshirts would appear.If you have a pc click on START then on MY COMPUTER then under SYSTEM TASKS click ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS there the name of all programs in your computer would appear and you can remove or add.The program should be listed there.To find the name:when the add appears pay attention to the very top of the page (blue tab) it usually says the name.

This is NOT a malware induced symptom, but merely your browser doing what it is meant to do automatically, which is to fetch all assets it encounters; and these assets are coming not from the site you 'asked' to get, but from 3rd parties (which are usually ads).
Browsers must be constrained to return only the site you asked for, otherwise you'll be flooded with garbage and some of that can be tainted with malware.

Get Firefox as your default browser & use it for everyday tasks.
The following mods help, but methods ("vectors") are dynamic, and users must stay abreast of daily threats.
FIREFOX: Tools> Options> Privacy> top drop menu set to "Firefox will use custom settings..."> Check 'Accept Cookies from sites'
â–ºUn-Check 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'.
And tick the very top box regarding "Do Not Track".

AdBlock Plus (with 'subscription' added) & "Better Privacy" also helps defray rubbish.

CHROME> wrench icon> Preferences> Under the hood> Content settings> Cookies (heading): tick "Allow local data..." & "Ignore exceptions and block 3rd party..."> close tab.

INTERNET EXPLORER does not handle 3rd party assets very well no matter what settings you have (or anything else) and won't give nearly the control as Firefox or Chrome.
It is garbage.
Use to your own detriment.
