for hiding your album pictures just go to the account at the top then privacy setting then "personal information" after that click on :photo album's edit settings" and now u can control who sees each of your photo albums...

I don't think that you can make your profile pictures private (only for you) but you can make your photo albums private. (maybe that's what you are looking for)
Go To : Account / Privacy Settings / Profile Information
Then choose EDIT SETTINGS under Photo Albums
