How to choose the right tablet?

How to choose the right tablet?
I am in the market for a tablet.

What would be best for my lifestyle is a 7 to 8 inch tablet that fits easily in my purse.
I would like to have a cover that doubles as a keyboard but it is not TOTALLY necessary.
I do not need 3G. Connecting to a wireless network would work fine.

What I will be using my tablet for:
e-mail,
looking at powerpoints,
reading and writing in Word (and sending these docs in e-mail),
surfing the web (online shopping),
reading magazines, newspapers, and some books,
accessing facebook, pinterest and instagram Smile,
Saving recipies,
using my tablet as my planner/calendar.
skype! (so I need a camera/webcam built in)
I am also hoping that I could use my tablet as a navigation system but I'm not sure if that works without 3G service? (If anybody can answer this, that would be great!)

I am not crazy about playing games. I do not use Apps hardly ever (except for instagram). I do occasionally like to watch a TV show on Hulu.

For price, I would like to keep it under $400-$500. The more I can use the tablet for, the more I am willing to pay!

Google Nexus 7

Only cost $199 and comes with the same specs as those $500 tablets. Only thing it lacks is expandable storage and rear camera.

Edit: Also since Google supports it that means it gets the latest Android software first.
