How can I use google groups with my hotmail id. and how can i update statuses in g.groups as I do in facebook?

I wanna make a group of my classmates where I can share files (doc, pdf, jpeg etc) and also can share statuses as we update in facebook so others can comment on that.
Admin should have the authority to block any post or member.
http://www.wiggio.com is a good example but user can easily bypass the blocking system there ... and in google groups we cannot share statuses and don't have the interface like facebook. where every member can see and can comment right away.
