Help With a Guy Please?

I started a class in college and am attracted to this guy :]
We talked a little bit during a small class group assignment.
I contemplated approaching him in person but was worried he had a girlfriend or something.
I added and messaged him on Facebook just saying hi or whatever but it was small talk.
He's apparently single according to Facebook but seems to talk to this other girl a lot.
Should I ask him to lunch or something after class or should I wait for him to approach me?
I know I make things harder than they are but I am fairly new at this stuff and don't want to look like an idiot...

Hey, so reading what you've wrote, I believe that you shudnt chase the guy, it will make you look desperate, and no guys like a desperate female, and if he sees that your trying to get at him, he might take advantage of that, and try using you. I say to just be yourself around him, and just be nice as you wud to any other guy, and if he's into you, he'll come to you. And in regards to that other girl he talks to, maybe they've been friends for a lng time, or maybe they're related, if they aren't related at all, and you see like they're flirtatious then he probably likes her/ they're into eachother, and in which case you shud defiantly back off and move on. Again if he's into you , he will come to you.
