iphone push, issue with mail and facebook apps?

i'm not sure if this involves the push feature or not, but notifications dont come up on the home screen for my mail application or my facebook application unless i enter the app itself and let the page load to check itself.

does this feature exist or am i just giving the app too much credit?

3rd party applications don't support push yet. Apple is testing the push server now and it should be over around may 25. Then the iPhone 3.0 beta 6 will come out with push. But if your not a developer, then you can't have the push until the final release. For the mail app, it depends on what emails your using. If your using yahoo then you get free push email. Any other email will use fetch. If your not getting badges on your mail app, go to settings > mail, contacts, calendar > fetch new data. and see if you have it set to 15, 30, 60 minutes or Manually
