Can you really use tools to get more followers?

The best way to get followers on Twitter is to tweet about interesting things and to retweet (also known as RT) other people's tweets that are interesting or informative.

Pick something that you find interesting or that you know a lot about and start tweeting about it. Don't overdo it. About 10 - 20 tweets a day is more than enough. Less than that is OK. But you don't want to overtweet or people will unfollow you because there's just too much to keep up with. Then find other people who are posting about the same sorts of things that you are. To do this, just search for a keyword. For example, if the thing you're really good at or really interested in is gardening, then try doing a Twitter search on gardens. If you find interesting tweets, look a little more closely at those folks and see if they're posting things that you'd be interested in. If so, then follow them. If you're also tweeting things of interest to them, they'll most likely follow you back.

I'd also recommend using a twitter app. such as Tweetdeck, Seesmic, or my favorite, Nambu. It makes Twitter much more manageable.

So extremely simple a 7 year old can do it, your grandmother can do it, and Cousin Joe who does not even have a PC can do it.

You could follow people who are tweeting about similar stuff to you. That way they might have a look at your tweets, and if they consider it to be similar they might follow you.

If you just want to get your tweets out there, start a blog or something, and use the Twitter Gadget to add the tweets to your sidebar. Add the Twitter App on Facebook so that your tweets automatically update your Facebook Status, add it to your Bebo Lifestream, add the Twitter Gadget to MySpace. There is lots of way to get your tweets out there.

Get everyone you know to follow you. Oh and also, have a link to your twitter account as part of your signature on any forums or other websites you post on often.
