What is the reason for CHAIN MAIL?
've been thinking about FRIENDSHIP and what it means to be a friend in REAL LIFE and a friend on FACEBOOK. I recall being told as a child that I was lucky if I could count my true friends on one hand. I remember getting letters in the mail, not many since I was a kid, but I got some CHAIN MAIL once and not having a wise mentor to guide me away from SUPERSTITION, I wasted my time/energy following through with the prophetic demands of an anxiety producing practice. I wonder if the senders who "play along" knew what they were doing? I wonder what the motive is to pass along these "CHAIN MESSAGES" sent via FACEBOOK, email and other SOCIAL APPS? Do you think one's intentions are "fun, frivolous, harmless mind dribble" or actually being fearful of the curse said to befall those who don't participate or the third group of folks who continue the CHAIN because they want to believe the message and pass it along with sincerity? Then there is the 4th group, which many of us fall into: mindless forwarding of something that momentarily captured our attention. A true friend wouldn't burden you with superfluous b.s., right? You know what I mean? "If you agree/believe/support/etc, PASS IT ON!" I believe in JUST SAY NO. Not because I don't agree or believe the statements shared by my FRIENDS. I believe we can support each others causes by reading and acknowledging their zealous remarks without the burden of pressure to PASS IT ON. Ya'll know what I mean?

You pretty much answered your own question, but these articles are all about chain letters. Yes, chain letters are started by extremely manipulative people, and carried on by others who don't realize or care they are being used to get junk spammed all over the net.
