How to get things moving with a guy?

Well there is this guy, I kind of like him and he kind of likes me back. I want to, well "get" him I guess, before he gets bored and stops liking me. I'm in heaps of his classes but I don't know how to approach him or anything, I'm a bit shy and so is he so it might be a bit difficult. But I am starting to think about him a lot and I would really like to get to know him better :3 we already talk a lot on twitter, we acknowledge each other when we walk past each other in corridors but it doesn't go much further than that. I'm friends with one of his friends, who knows I like him. I just don't know how to start something!! Why is it so difficult. Please help
