Facebook privacy settings...?

If someone has the privacy setting that people they are not friends with can't send them messages, does the person that is sending the message know? Like if you sent a message to someone with the setting, does facebook tell you that you can't message them?

when someone has that setting, you wont be able to even send him a message in the first place, unless you are replying to an existing message from him
