Should I get over him, or face my fears?

Should I get over him, or face my fears?
At the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 a guy I knew from my youth group started talking to me over Facebook. I liked a different guy at the time but we became good friends in a short amount of time. We got along really, really well. I think he might have liked me, since he talked to me every day, but I don't know. I did like him at one stage but mostly I thought he was a great friend, and that's all.
My dad found out and because he's very protective, he got me to delete all the boys off my Facebook. A while later I messaged the boy without adding him, to ask if he hated me, because it had ended abruptly and I was worried about how he felt. But he told me he didn't hate me and we kept messaging each other for a while, but I felt too guilty so I called it off again and we stopped talking.
I saw him again in September, and I said hello, and we exchanged smiles, and he seemed pretty genuine.
It's been a year since I saw him last and I still think of him sometimes. I go over our Facebook messages and wonder where he's at, and if he'd still be my friend if we had the chance.
So I'm wondering, should I leave it, and keep on avoiding him (since that's kind of what I've been doing), or should I get in touch with him again? I haven't been to my youth group in ages but I've seen a couple photos where he's been there. Also, I'm allowed to add boys on Facebook again, but I'm too scared to add him.
So what should I do? Try my best to get over him, or try my best to face my fears?

Face your fears. What's the worst that could happen? Good luck. (:
