Is there a way to add people to facebook groups who are NOT your friends?

I recently was part of a High School "All-District Band" and I'd like to make a group for all the students that participated in it but since there is so many schools represented I am not friends with very many of them but would still like to add them to this group I made.

Send out a notification to all of your friends, and tell them to suggest their friends to join, then as like the song "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" basically everyone will have heard about it. Even if they are not selected, it will show up to them that You have 30 friends in this group or such.
