How do I talk to this girl on Facebook?

I have seen this girl in school. I am facebook friends with her, and I think she is very pretty. There are just two problems, however. I am very shy, especially around women. And also, every time I see her she is with her friends, so I obviously do not want to approach her like that. I don't know her at all except for her name. I don't have any classes with her. What could be the best way to start a conversation with her on Facebook?
