How can I get more Twitter followers?

Your answer requires more than one answer I think. Professionally speaking you get more followers by twitting content that people find useful. Then they will either recommend your twits to others or re twit your content. A re twit is somebody quoting what you have said because they think it is good. Here is an example: Someone who has seen Bills twit about an upcoming music project could say something like "Hey, Bill had some really interesting music in this blogentry: http://bill-makatowicz.blogspot.com/2011...suite.html and I find it very interesting...check it out "

If you only have a twitter account for purpose of finding friends I would suggest asking your friends what their names are on twitter, search for them and add them. You could also follow people you adore. Just remember that twitter is different from Facebook in that very few has the same amount of followers on twitters as they have friends on Facebook.

If when people follow me I do not necessarily follow them. Just because some people are interested in hearing and learning about the silver jewelry doesn't necessarily mean that the people running the business is interested in hearing what those people eat for dinner. In your situation, where you just want friends for social reasons I think Facebook tend to create more friends because in Facebook you are really put on the spot when you are asked to be someone's friend. In twitter it doesn't seems as big a deal to if you do not follow someone that follows you.

I've asked this questions myself.. typically I saw a business buy 10,000 followers at http://www.sproutfollowers.com for $30. after this purchase and 2 days down the line.. another 2,000 odd followers naturally followed the company. Just because they had a lot of followers I presume? or maybe they followed that showed similar interests. Buying them seems to be the quickest way by far.
