Can someone help me with two Twitter issues?

My Twitter account says I have 7 direct messages when I have none. I realize that there is a cache problem and that I'm not the only one that has it. Nevertheless, I would like to know how to get the thing to read 0 instead of 7.

There's a thing at the bottom of the Twitter feed that says "what to do now." It's distracting, I hate it, I want it gone. Please, it's driving me crazy that something so simple is so hard to fix.

I think its the server of Twitter and you cannot do anything until they fix it from their side.
