He said even if your facebook profile is private, employers may contact a facebook friend, to come to their location, and sign on, then go on your page so they can see everything, can potential employers, or real employers do that?

Yes I heard this too on a movie in one of our classes but its not like they will bust into your house and arrest you for trolling someone on facebook...its just so they can track your interests and get to know how to change facebook for the better of the people!

They could and if the friend agrees then the company has not done anything wrong but if a company really does that then would you really want to work for them. I would hope that none of your friends would agree to something like that and if they were approached to do that they would let you know.
If it is an employer that you are currently employed with and they use this Information to fire or reprimand you I believe you would have grounds for a lawsuit. But that won't help you meet your immediate financial needs so my advice is that you only allow close friends access to most of your info and make sure they know not to allow anyone else access. There are allot of alerts out there to employees to not allow employers to access your social media accounts and the same would apply to friends of prospective employees. A bunch of states are in process of making this practice illegal. |
