How many of the pictures I like show up on my friends' feeds?

So I've been liking a lot of pictures on Facebook lately, mostly for Doctor Who, which most of my Facebook friends aren't really familiar with. I saw one of the pictures I liked on my mom's feed, but she's my mom; she's listed as my mom on Facebook, so I guess it'd be more natural for my stuff to pop up more in her feed. I sometimes see the pictures people I don't know well like in my ticker, but I can't recall if I see them on my feed as well.
If people I don't know well are seeing the dozens of Doctor Who pictures I'm liking, how do I stop this from happening?
This would also apply to statuses too, but I tend to like more pictures.
