How can you block someone's facebook status?

I have a friend who is nice, but posts a lot of annoying things on facebook. Is there any way to block their posts so I don't have to know everything they are up to every minute of the day without deleting them as a friend?

Yes there is and thank God I found out how, Go to the persons page at the top you will see a button that says friends - click that and you will see the option "show in news feeds" click that to remove the check mark. No more annoying posts! voila!!
