If she's responsible and can be trusted not to do anything daft like befriending strangers, she should be fine. My daughter is the same age and has her facebook page, we keep an eye on what posts she's exposed to and who's on her friends list. She's never given us reason to regret allowing her.

Better let her do it with you knowing about it then do something "stupid" secretly without you knowing. Facebook is not much of a deal and as long as she adds people she knows in real life from school it will probably be fine.just make sure her profile information will not be visible to non-friends . you can fix that through security options.

I believe facebook policy at least was, to not permit under 13's onto facebook. This policy may have changed, however it is something to look into.

I believe that your parents/ Legal guardians should be asked, and if no permission is given, Please respect their wishes.

Generally speaking facebook is ok if you are very careful, and control tightly what goes on via the privacy settings. Access to her account at any time probably wouldn't be a bad idea and should be negotiated with your parents/guardians. If she is responsible I don't see her objecting to this and gives your family peace of mind (hopefully).
