I got a facebook page, now what, how do I find 'friends'?

I live in another country, having moved from "home" several years ago. I have no friends or family in which to connect with back home, and it has been fruitless trying to be friendly with anyone where I live now. ---I've tried---

Anyways, this is not a pity-seeking, sad-sop story. The fact of the matter is, I would like to meet people and chat. As it has been shoved down our throats by the media that Facebook is THE place to meet people these days, I thought I'd finally get a 'page' and give it a go.

so, now what? How do I meet people and become facebook 'friends'? Are there group forums in which to chat with people or what? Are just expected to just dive in? I have no idea how or where to look for 'friends'.

If you already know that your friends and family have a facebook then all you have to do {depending what kind of electronic your on} is find the search button and type in their name....u can chat with people when going on someones wall or page it should give 2 options one of 'Add as Friend' and `Send Message'

Facebook friends are supposed to be people that you already know. It is not intended to be a place to make new friends.

On the other hand, there are groups that discuss common interests. You might be able to "meet" some people this way.

Go to the top of your page and you will see a little window in the middle, saying, "Search for people, places and things." Type something in that window that interests you. You will get a list of options. If it says, "Group," click on it and join the group. Participate in the discussion. Who knows? It's worth a try, anyway.
