How can I get more followers on Twitter?

There are a lot of ways to add followers.

Hmm... some good ways to add followers out there that don't take too much time.... um.

Well, I got about 5,000 followers over the course of the last week using some software I got cheap. Don't know where... oh.

Try writing one or two real letters to one or two real friends. Your results will be much better than what you get from Twitter followers.

And, yes, pray about it. Prayer is meant to bend our minds towards God's perfect will!

Don't buy any programs or anything. That's lame.

Just keep tweeting. On your myspace, facebook, etc, post your twitter link.

And when you see something you like on the "trending topics" list, go ahead and tweet about it. People will see you and possibly follow you.

Tweet stuff of value. Stuff that people would be interested in knowing about . Refrain about tweeting about daily stuff like what you ate for dinner or lunch or what your doing at this very moment. That is lame, and no one really cares.

Remember the golden rule of human behavior. People don't care about you as much as they care about themselves. So, figure out what people want to hear about and focus on bringing them value. Maybe its a joke of the day, maybe its a resource on blogging, dying hair, or a great deal online. Make following you, interesting and valuable.

I have always seen Twitter as a side dish. Not a main course. Like a good side dish it complements something that is already good and makes it great. Maybe you have a blog that you write that has great resources for a certain topic. You can can add a link on your blog to follow you on twitter as an easy way to keep people informed of new posts or articles.

Also ask yourself, what is the goal of having more followers? Is it to simply have more followers and look important? Is it to develop a following of people that really care about what I have to say?

What ever you do... don't buy some automated software. It's impersonal and annoying. I get so many fake "follows" from automated services, it's ridiculous. I can always tell when it's an automated follow, as I always direct message anyone who follows me to thank them for following me. I never get a response from those who auto-follow me from some automated process. I in turn do not follow them and no real relationship is ever build. What a waste of time, bandwidth, and pixels.

I hope this has given you some insight as to what you should do in terms of not simply wanting followers for the sake of wanting followers. People will follow you when you tweet about stuff that matters to them.
