How to hide friends status updates on facebook?

I have alot of friends on facebook. I do not wish to unfriend them but I also do not want to see some of their status updates & clutter on my wall.

People told me I could hide certain friends so I wouldn't have to see it. I looked online and it said to mouse over their update and a hide button would appear on the right hand side. IT DOES NOT.

Both on my profile and wall it just has an X that says remove. But nothing says hide.

How do I do this? Please help.

It isn't on your profile or your wall. On the News Feed put your mouse over to the far right of their post and click the "X" and it will show that you can hide just their posts.

when a new status of theirs pops up on your news update just go over to it and an x should show up in the right-hand corner of the post, i had to do this because some people update their statuses like it's twitter

go to the facebook privacy setting and all other settings and check every option that's all.

to hide friend status! on the stream on the end of their status to the right theres an x and u gota click that x and it will say hide post from this person.. to see their post again if you ever want to scroll all the way down to the page where it says options and you can fix it from there.
