Also, what is a data plan and how much does it cost with t-mobile? How do I apply for it.

if youre connected to wifi then you can do internet/apps.
so yeah. data plan is the data/megabytes used to go on the internet and download apps when you are not on wifi. which smartphones do need a data plan. so i dont know how you went to tmobile without needing a data plan.
