Surprised by my nieces Facebook groups?
I hardly ever see my nieces and nephews in real life, however, I am friends with most of them on facebook. however, i was looking at one of my nieces facebook groups and a lot of them are blantly neo nazi and white supremacist, complete with nazi symbols. her myspace page is similar, with nazi symbols

i was pretty shocked, especially since shes my family member, though I hardly know her, i do sometimes talk to her in real life at family reunions, shes a grown woman now.

what do you think? should i tell her my feelings? i honestly dread clicking her facebook profile... though i love her. i never knew she was like that

Just mind your own business.. Its their facebook and myspace not yours. If they want to join those groups its their choice. They're still your niece and nephew but they are entitled to their own opinions.

That is really bad and must be difficult for you. Surely she can leave that at the door at family gatherings?

Hitler was the dictator of Germany, and he himself was an Austrian immigrant. Hitler orchestrated the Holocaust, though he himself was the offspring of an ethnic Jewish grandfather. He had homosexuals imprisoned, though he was rumored to be gay and escorted Eva Braun around as a show dog to prove to the world that he was not a weak homosexual to the enemy. Hitler who didn't believe in any God, convinced Catholics that he was the new Messiah, a German Christ who had come to avenge the crucifixion with the Holocaust.
Six million Jews were put to death in the Holocaust. Over sixty million people were killed in Europe during World War Two. One in every ten people died as a result of Hitler being there at that time.
The key to it all was identity. Germany lacked an identity at that time and Hitler provided it. It is fascinating stuff, indeed. I can go on and on.
What you might do is to invite your nieces and nephews over for pizza or coffee and ask them about this stuff. Try not to condemn what you hear as they will stop sharing. Act like someone who is curious. What you will find is the following. Trust me because this is common among most neo Nazi groups.
Hitler is part of the Aryan race, a superior white race of beings that has superior intelligence and strength.
Followers of neo Nazi groups are self convinced that they are the direct descendants of Aryans, although many of these followers and their families may not know their true ethnic and racial genealogy.
Nazi groups tend to prey upon individuals who have a low self esteem. The pride in the group supersedes the pride in the self.
Hitler is believed to have messianic like qualities including raising people from the dead in much the same way Jesus Christ is believed to have done likewise.
The belief that Germany, and the Germans as a people are superior to all others.
An inherent hatred for democracy, particularly Great Britain and the United States.
There are many other things too.
What seems to be common is a lack of self esteem and the use of white supremacy and nazi groups as a way to fill the void of a lack of self esteem. There is also a lack of family connection, which is replaced by group connection.
If you insult this group, they will defend it. If you ridicule the group, they will become defensive and will not respond to your arguments.
Try to find out if these family members tend to be withdrawn or show signs of manic depression or bipolar behavior. Get them to open up about their interest in Nazis and white supremacist groups. Be curious rather than condemning.
Teenagers and young people want to rebel against authorities. Parents. Teachers. Employers. Grown ups in general. Once they see that the Nazis and white supremacists are merely more grown ups trying to control their lives and take away their individual freedoms and choices, you may see what is now an obsessive interest turn into a disinterest. Right now, this is their way of rebelling. In fact, they have merely run away from the control of their parents and family and allowed themselves to be adopted by a new set of parents whom the obey without question. Sort of takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?
