Cultures/Groups: Okay, random Q. How do you pronounce "Neanderthal"?
I was fighting with my friend over Facebook. She pronounces it the way it's spelled, I pronounce it like it's spelled "Neandertal'. So who exactly is right?

"Knee and er thal" but the original German pronunciation is knee an der tall ("Thal" means "valley", so it really means "Neander Valley").

It's German, you pronounce it nee-an-der-tal

@Mark, Neanderthals were named after the the site of their discovery, which was Neander's Valley.

edit-No one named Neander, like Joachim Neander? Who'd they name Neander's Valley after then?
