Hmmm, interesting question.

There are tools you can use to find targeted people on Twitter.
http://Twitter.Grader.com
Comes to mind.

With their tool
* Select the search button
* Type in your keyword
The results are all the people that are using that exact keyword in their bio. If you use brackets so much the better.

Of course, you could use Twitter itself to narrow your search to people that you are interested in finding. Let me explain.

If you type the word [chocolate] into Twitters search box you will recieve everyone who has been talking about chocolate.

* Healthy Chocolate
* Chocolate IPhones
* Chocolate Labradors

However, if you type in the word [#chocolate] you will find people who are focusing on the word chocolate within their 140 character post. Or you can add brackets ["chocolate"] like recommended in my Twitter Grader statement above to narrow your focus even more.

There are other ways to narrow down your focus to specific audiences, but I would caution you to be careful in doing so. If someone has taken the time to follow you their must be a reason. Their follow doesn't mean you need to spend time with them, but it does mean you have become that much more popular within Twitters system and thus more and more people will find you within the search terms you are focusing on.

Which brings me to another point. When creating your BIO for Twitter use keyword rich terms so that people will find you when they are searching for the "right" people for them to follow.

Hey I found a quick and easy way to target twitter followers that are interested in a specific topic:

First you use the twitter find people search feature
second select find on twitter and search for people within your industry.
third you locate the users' followers and start following their followers.

This information made twitter a lot easier for me and took me sometime to find. Here is the site that breaks it all down step by step in a basic format which was perfect for me and I hope it works for you!

Use twollo.com. It allows you to only follow people that discuss a certain topic. They will then choose whether to follow you.

First, I have to agree with the above answers, but in addition to their advice.. definitely head to http://twollow.com/ first - it will automatically follow people based on the keywords you specify.. big timesaver Smile

I also use TweetLater.com to get a daily email based on what people in my field are chatting about and then I manually follow and interact with the ones I want to engage with.

Next.. list yourself and your business profile in all of the Twitter Directories - let people find you! Smile

Also make sure that you have a link from your website and that you update all your online "social profiles" with a way to follow you on Twitter - and, add your twitter url to your email signature.

And lastly, watch this video on the "must-do's" to get more followers:
Basically.. unless you follow these steps, people might just look at your profile and not bother following you.. these are the basic steps to take to ensure that you look interesting enough to follow Smile
